Happy 2012!

If you followed my planning videos in December, you may have defined some nice juicy goals for yourself this year.

And as you have started to execute those plans, you may have already faced some challenges and resistance from your market.

My best advice?

Don’t back down.

It is really scary to play bigger at first but it gets a lot easier as you do it a few times.

I always ask two questions when I’m faced with these fears:

    1. Am I willing to settle for the type of person I will be if I don’t do this?

    2. What is the real worst case scenario?

(You can also ask at the end if you’re being 100% honest)

    Thanks!

Hi Pam, I love this video post. So often we can help others but not see the issue for ourselves. I am in the process of leaning into a new business and new markets, and I admit I felt a bit of “shrinking back” this morning as I sat down to write up my program. I was looking at your blog for inspiration, and voila, here it is!! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store.

  6. Hi Pam,

Great insights about facing new challenges and what our natural reactions tend to be. I love your martial arts analogy! I just met with a friend the other day who is a black belt in Aikido and he told me something similar.

    I’m leaning. I’m leaning!!!

  8. Hi Pam,

Thank you! This is just the pep talk I needed- and I should probably re-watch it every day! Taking that step toward taking your business to a new level is scary and it’s too easy to get stuck in the comfort rut. Thank you for the reminder that moving forward won’t kill me!

  9. Thanks Pam. I clicked over for a little inspiration, and am now on my way- leaning in. ๐Ÿ™‚

As someone who teaches the idea of leaning into discomfort instead of backing away, this totally resonates with me, and I love the visual moves. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for the reminder and the unwavering perspective. Big fish, and big ocean.

Pam’s pulling out her ninja moves! Just what I needed to hear today. Thanks!

  12. Hi Pam,
Great post (as usual) for so many!! It’s a big part of my program The Confidence Revolution, to work with people who are in the ‘tuck and run’ mode. I loved the Martial Arts analogy and how you’re trained to stay in it, eyes open, leaning in and facing forward – LOVE it! It’s a lifeling process, as we continue to grow.
As with most people, my available mental/time bandwidth is stretched, but I ALWAYS make time for your wisdom! Thanks.
Life is amazing…live it well! Debra

  13. I was “pulling back” as you were “leaning in. Not good…

So I am signing up for “power teaching” to get that martial arts edge!

    Looking forward to it!

LOVE that your office looks neat as a pin. And so glad that Yoda is still there in the background. xo

  15. Thanks Pam, love that you are keeping us on track!!!! I agree, the bigger our goals, the more resistance…When we face an obstacle along the way on our journey to achieving that goal, it is not a dead end! We just need to take a detour to get there…

I like seeing it this way, when we come to dead end on the road (especially in a foreign country:)), we keep going, but, how do we do it? We revisit the path we took, learn the mistake we make, and take a detour, another way, to get to our destination! In all situations where I have come to a dead end, I have had the most fun ever finding my way to my destination!

  16. Love it. Love big juicy dreams. Love the challenge, the energy that comes from the start, the huge rush of empowerment — love everything about big dreams *except* the big resistance, and you are so right: it’s just part of the package. What was it Randy Pausch said? “The brick walls aren’t there to keep you out. They’re there to prove to yourself how badly you want what’s on the other side.”
