My hubbie and I had an exceptional insight this weekend while we were visiting Sedona with my family over the Thanksgiving weekend. We want to live there! For those of you not familiar with Sedona, Arizona it is a truly beautiful place with gorgeous red rocks and lots of healing energy. It is about 2 1/2 hours from where we live now in Arizona. I think it would be a great place to set up my virtual business, and run semi-annual retreats. Not to mention a great place to raise a family.
Here was the rub … once I had this new, exciting vision in my head, I wanted to do it immediately! I rushed home and jumped on the web to check real estate prices, the local business environment, and the schedule of pilates classes. I soon realized that we need to slow down, make a long-term plan, and slowly chip away at our vision. My hubbie has significant work to do in his construction business to make it self-sustaining. And I have to do significant work to get my business rolling so that we can manage the move financially. I am slowly ramping up after being off for 7 months on maternity leave.
So here is the lesson I learned that I recommend for those of you pondering a big, exciting move like starting your own business: create a big vision, define what you need to accomplish this vision, work backwards to today, and create your plan to attain your goal. Don’t rush yourself. If you are thoughtful and diligent, it will happen!
